Sharjah Police have stepped up to the task of seizing modified cars causing noise and pollution in the area. The Police received several complaints regarding the reckless drivers and beefed-up engine noises, and in this regard detained 81 cars which violate modification standards imposed by the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA).
His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has given the Police strict orders to not spare motorists with modified cars posing risk to the safety of people.
Major General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, told us they are going to strengthen scrutiny of vehicles with altered engines, silencers, and horns.
“If they have been changed without permission, and if drivers are threatening the lives of other road users, or hindering traffic movement, the cars will be confiscated and owners will have to pay,” he said.
“Sharjah Police’s main priorities are protecting lives and preventing negative behavior that affects the safety of residents in the emirate.”
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Allai, Director of Traffic police and Patrols, told they have captured 81 modified cars along with 419 others posing danger to motorists on the road. “We have controlled the problem but we still receive complaints from residents about dangerous driving in these altered high-speed vehicles,” he said.
Police are working hard to educate motorists on the dangers of reckless driving and altering vehicle parts.
