The Mercedes-AMG E50 will be the range-topping and the hottest version of the E-Class Coupe, confirmed by the automaker. This will be the first version to get the Mercedes’ all-new M256 in-line six-cylinder petrol engine. The Mercedes-AMG E50 will be the most expensive and the fastest member of the family.
The E50 nameplate is chosen because of 2 reasons; first it has been 50 years since the Mercedes-AMG came into being, and secondly to show that the Mercedes AMG E50 is positioned higher than the E43 sedan.
The car might be introduced in 2 models; coupe and convertible. Autocar reports the engine could be a 3.0-liter inline-6 assisted by an electric compressor to generate 402 horsepower. Mercedes is currently fine tuning this engine. It is worth mentioning that the current Mercedes E63 has a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine good for 600 horsepower.
The next-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe will make its debut during Detroit Auto Show next year, while the E50 should arrive in the second half of 2017.
