October, 2016 saw the opening round of the Emirates Desert Championship. As the second season starts, local as well as many foreign competitors confirm to be a part of the great championship. More than 103 entries have been received for the second round.
Swedish driver Annie Seel, who was also a part of the first season of the Desert Championship is coming back for the season two. Nikita Abramov from Russia and Swedish rider Mathias Holmberg are one of the prominent debutants of the second round.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the Automobile & Touring Club of the UAE (ATCUAE), says the latest round of the championship is in progress and every year, more and more overseas participants come to join the race and rally.
After his win in the first season, Briton Mark Powell will now compete with last year’s champion, Ahmed Al Fahim. The motorcycle race will see a strong contest among Ross Runnalls – the winner last year – and Mohamed Al Balooshi and Mohammed Jaffar.
The Emirates Desert Championship consists of five seasons sponsored by the ATCUAE and the EMSF (Emirates Motor Sport Federation). As round two is happening, rest of the rounds will be held on January 20, 2017, February 3 and February 17 next year.
