The current GMC Terrain has been a quiet presence in GMC’s lineup since 2018. Although it received a facelift in 2022, it remains GMC’s top-selling SUV in the first half of this year. Now, GMC has introduced a new model, heralded as the next generation for its entry-level SUV.
One of the first things you’ll notice about the 2025 GMC Terrain is its refreshed exterior styling. The changes might be subtle at first glance—the overall design remains similar to the previous model, especially with the C-shaped LED running lights and the slightly elevated beltline at the C-pillar. The new design incorporates a forward-leaning pillar, echoing the Chevrolet Equinox. The front end features a larger, rectangular grille and a more angular, edgy fascia.
At the rear, the design has been updated with straighter lines and a lower fascia now equipped with vertically-oriented reflectors. The C-shaped taillights are smaller, and the rear quarter windows have been enlarged. Additionally, there’s a new two-tone roof option, highlighted by the floating roof effect created by the redesigned C-pillar.
Inside, the changes are much more striking. A 15-inch portrait-oriented digital screen now dominates the center of the dashboard, accompanied by an 11-inch digital instrument display. These features are standard across the Terrain lineup and represent a major tech overhaul, including 15 driver-assist systems and Google Assistant. Available options include a power liftgate, rain-sensing wipers, 5G hotspot connectivity, and eight exterior cameras, surpassing any previous Terrain models.
In terms of mechanics, the 2025 Terrain remains largely unchanged. It continues with a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, identical to the current model but paired with a new eight-speed automatic transmission. Initially, the 2025 Terrain will come with standard all-wheel drive, with a front-wheel-drive version expected to be introduced later.
There are still some unknowns about the new Terrain. It appears slightly taller and wider, but GMC has not provided specific dimensions or details about any chassis modifications. The base Elevation trim will debut first, replacing the SLE and SLT trims, and is expected to hit dealerships by late 2024. The AT4 and Denali trims will follow in 2026, offering enhanced features, luxury, and off-road capabilities with the AT4.
Pricing details will be released closer to the Terrain’s launch date. Given the added technology and standard all-wheel drive, it’s likely that the base price will be significantly higher than the current starting price of $30,095. In the UAE, the starting price of the Terrain is around AED 101,100.
