After much anticipation, the moment has arrived. Introducing the latest addition to the BMW lineup: the M4 CS. Positioned strategically between the Competition and CSL models, it brings enhanced power, reduced weight, and exhilarating speed to the iconic M series.
If you’ve kept up with the M3 CS, you’ll find the similarities striking. Sporting the same 543-horsepower output from its twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, this two-door powerhouse delivers a peak torque of 479 pound-feet. Utilizing BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel drive system, power is efficiently transmitted to the ground. Equipped solely with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, the M4 CS sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds under full throttle. Its top speed is electronically limited to 188 mph, mirroring the M3 CS in every aspect.
There’s a decrease in weight as well. BMW claims they’ve cut 45 pounds compared to the M4 Competition by incorporating carbon fiber reinforced plastic into several body parts such as the hood, front splitter, and rear diffuser. This change isn’t confined to the exterior—elements like the center console, paddle shifters, and interior trim also utilize this lightweight material. Additionally, the standard M Carbon seats weigh less, and BMW has managed to shave off eight pounds from the exhaust system.
Paired with unique adjustments to the chassis and suspension, the outcome is a nimble coupe adept at navigating corners. Although it doesn’t outpace the CSL around the Nürburgring, it comes remarkably close. BMW recorded an official time of 7 minutes 21.99 seconds—just 1.5 seconds shy of the notably hardcore CSL. To optimize the CS’s performance on the racetrack, BMW provides buyers with a choice of track or “ultra-track” tires at no additional cost. These tires are fitted onto a staggered set of M alloy wheels, available in black or gold, with sizes of 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the rear.
Additional enhancements in the CS model involve an exclusive black interior complemented by red accents, featuring a combination of leather and Alcantara materials. The initial exterior color options are restricted to Riviera Blue or Frozen Isle of Man Green, creating a striking contrast with visible carbon fiber elements and yellow accent lighting in the headlights.
CS insignia can be found on various interior components such as the seats, center console, and door sills, along with badges adorning the trunk and grille. Notably, the iconic kidney grille, now frameless for reduced weight, boasts red detailing for a distinctive appearance compared to the standard M4.
Despite the weight reduction, the price tag sees a significant increase. Including a destination charge of $1,175, the M4 CS starts at $124,675—representing a $35,200 premium over the M4 Competition xDrive. Production is set to commence in July, with deliveries slated for later this year.
