In October 2022, the GMC Sierra Denali EV made its debut, featuring a starting MSRP of $108,695, including destination charges. The top-tier Edition 1 model boasted a dual-motor system generating 754 horsepower and offering a range of 400 miles. Originally slated for early 2024 release, developments since then have mostly been positive.
The starting price is now $99,495, down from the initial six-figure estimate, as confirmed by a GMC representative. This revised price includes the destination fee, making the Edition 1 a five-figure option. While specific reasons for the adjustment weren’t disclosed, it’s evident that the EV market has evolved since the Sierra EV’s unveiling 18 months ago. Ford has reduced pricing and production for the F-150 Lightning, while the Cybertruck has entered the fray with a significantly higher price tag than initially anticipated.
GMC’s enhancements to the Sierra EV include boosting the range for the Edition 1 trim to approximately 440 miles, marking a 10 per cent rise from the initial estimate. It’s important to mention that these figures are provided by General Motors and not EPA-certified, yet they surpass both the F-150 Lightning and Cybertruck, while also outperforming the Rivian R1T. GMC attributes this improvement to the “optimization of the GM Ultium Platform.”
The Sierra EV Denali Edition 1 is set to launch with an anticipated top towing capacity of 10,000 pounds and a cargo limit of 1,450 lbs, surpassing initial projections. While heavy usage may impact range, GMC highlights the Sierra EV’s ability to fast-charge at speeds up to 350kW, replenishing 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes. The downside? Delivery for the Sierra EV has been pushed to the summer of 2024 instead of early 2024 as initially planned.
Despite being completely sold out, GMC has not disclosed the exact number of Edition 1s being produced. Details regarding pricing and availability of other Sierra EV trims will be revealed later on.
