On Friday, Ineos Automotive unveiled its latest vehicle, the Fusilier, an electric SUV echoing the squared-off, vintage look of its predecessor, the Grenadier. Alongside an all-electric version, Ineos plans to provide a gas-powered range-extender option. Promising “top-tier off-road capability without sacrificing on-road performance,” the Fusilier will be shorter and sleeker than the Grenadier, utilizing a skateboard platform with a steel top hat, underbody, and aluminum doors.
Details regarding the Fusilier’s 4×4 powertrain from Ineos remain undisclosed, leaving us in the dark about specifics such as battery capacity and mileage.
CEO Jim Ratcliffe emphasized the necessity for a blend of powertrain technologies, stating, “As we developed this vehicle, we quickly concluded that in order to move towards decarbonization but continue making cars that consumers want to drive, we need a mix of powertrain technologies. BEVs are perfect for certain uses: shorter trips and urban deliveries, but industry and governments need to have realistic expectations around other technologies that can help accelerate the necessary pace of change.”
Based on images released by Ineos, the Fusilier seems adept off-road, sporting all-terrain tires, a front skid plate, and robust bumpers, reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. Reports from Top Gear mention enhancements for efficiency, including a shorter, sleeker profile and features like active grille shutters.
Ineos has collaborated with Magna for the development of the Fusilier, slated to be manufactured at Magna’s Graz, Austria facility, alongside vehicles such as the G-Class, BMW Z4, Toyota Supra, and Fisker Ocean.
Further updates on the Fusilier’s powertrain and release specifics are anticipated from Ineos by autumn. Source and Images: Motor1
