The Ford Explorer sports a revamped look, and now, so does the Lincoln Aviator. These two SUVs, part of the same automotive family, share not only a platform but also a 400-horsepower powertrain, interior layout, and available technology. However, Lincoln adds an extra touch of luxury, especially noticeable in 2024 with various appearance packages and new technological features distinguishing it from its more budget-friendly counterpart.

2024 Lincoln Aviator Preview

Exterior

The most significant update is evident upfront. The Aviator boasts a larger grille with headlights that seamlessly integrate into its upper corners. Below, there’s a redesigned fascia featuring vertically oriented corner vents. While the new Explorer adopts a similar design theme, it lacks the option for an illuminated grille badge like the Aviator. Moving around to the sides and rear, you’ll notice familiar Aviator elements from the previous model. This update primarily focuses on the front end, keeping changes concentrated around the nose.

Interior

Inside, there’s a similar theme with enlarged digital screens for the driver and front-seat passenger. The center display now spans up to 13.2 inches, while the instrument unit measures 12.4 inches. The 2024 Aviator also boasts a 13.2-inch screen, albeit the Ford’s digital driver screen is slightly smaller at 12.3 inches. The interior remains largely unchanged, but Lincoln spices it up with different color combinations named Light Space Gray, Harvest Bronze, and Hot Chocolate.

Technology

While visual alterations are minimal, the highlight of the 2024 Aviator lies in its technology. Introducing the Lincoln Digital Experience for the first time, integrating Google and Amazon functionalities into the Aviator’s infotainment system. This enables native access to apps like Spotify, Google Maps, YouTube, and built-in web browsers for web surfing (with certain features accessible only when parked, per Lincoln’s guidance). Equipped with Google Assistant or Alexa, ready to assist in managing tasks through voice commands, all customizable to the driver’s preferences. Fortunately, Android Auto or Apple CarPlay can still be accessed if preferred.

The Aviator introduces BlueCruise for 2024, a hands-free driving system standard on all trim levels. Lincoln Co-Pilot 360 comes standard too, offering various driver assists like lane-keep assist and a 360-degree camera, along with advanced features such as evasive steering assist and reversing brake assist.

Packages

Moreover, Lincoln offers several black appearance packages and wheel options. Customers can also opt for the Lincoln Black Label Invitation theme, reminiscent of the Navigator’s offering. This theme includes unique color and interior details, including laser-etched shapes on the dashboard – a feature unavailable on the Explorer.

“In our latest release, the Aviator, we’re elevating the integration of technology to enhance the luxurious and serene ambiance our customers have grown to love and expect from Lincoln,” remarked Director Heidi Shaffer. “With cutting-edge features such as the Lincoln Digital Experience and BlueCruise hands-free driving system, we’re crafting a modern haven on wheels.”

Price

The 2024 Aviator hits the market later this year, but it comes with a hefty price tag. The base model, Aviator Premiere, starts at $58,495 – an increase of $5,155 from the previous year. The mid-level Reserve begins at $67,495, while the top-tier Black Label demands $86,995. Add in all available options and the mandatory $1,395 destination charge, and the Aviator edges toward the $100,000 mark.
