The European debut of Volkswagen’s latest Tiguan iteration marks a significant milestone. Soon, this long-wheelbase variant will grace the roads of the UAE and the United States.
While the exterior retains a familiar look, subtle design elements reminiscent of the ID.4 EV, emerge, particularly evident in the closed upper grille. This model sits atop the MQB Evo platform, featuring standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive.
In Europe, VW unveils an array of fresh powertrain choices, leaving the US offerings shrouded in mystery. Two plug-in hybrid variants deliver either 201 horsepower (150 kilowatts) or a robust 268 hp (200 kW). These models incorporate a 19.7-kilowatt-hour battery, boasting an impressive electric-only range of up to 62 miles (100 kilometers). Notably, the AC charger now supports 11 kW, and the vehicle can accept up to 50 kW when connected to a DC fast charger.
Furthermore, there’s a lineup of mild-hybrid options. The turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder pairs with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a 48-volt starter/generator, with cylinder deactivation enabling two-piston engine operation.
The third-gen Tiguan also features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, offering either 201 hp (150 kW) or 262 hp (195 kW).
For diesel enthusiasts, the 2.0-litre engine remains available, producing either 148 hp (110 kW) or 190 hp (142 kW).
The tech enhancements encompass an upgraded adaptive chassis control system, working in harmony with electronic differential locks, alongside two-valve shocks equipped with a customized control algorithm.
Inside the cabin, VW introduces a fresh digital instrument display layout and an enhanced infotainment system, aligning with the MIB graphic design found in the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7. Drivers can select from various view modes: Classic, Progressive, Navigation, and R-Line.
Safety-conscious consumers can opt for a range of advanced features, including adaptive cruise control, hill start assist, park distance control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, and more.
Although technical specifications for the UAE-bound Tiguan remain undisclosed, anticipate the release of this information closer to the vehicle’s UAE launch.
