In the recent introduction of the 2024 Cayenne model by Porsche, the spotlight was on the Turbo GT, reclaiming its position as the top-tier variant. In this upgraded edition, the high-performance model comes equipped with a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 engine that has been carefully optimized to produce an additional 19 hp (14 kW), resulting in an impressive total power of 650 hp (485 kW). This enhanced power enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 3.3 seconds, with an impressive top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).

However, it is noteworthy that the Turbo GT version is not available for purchase in Europe. The reason behind this decision lies in the stricter emissions regulations implemented in the region, which unfortunately restricts its availability.

Exciting updates await from Porsche, as they have a new plan in the works. They’re developing a potent plug-in hybrid V8 model that will serve as an indirect replacement. While it currently lacks a designated name, there are speculations about whether it will be named the Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid or something different. One thing we do know is that it’s set to surpass all previous Cayenne models in power, offering an impressive combined output of over 700 hp. This marks an increase of around 20 horsepower compared to the previous Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid.

Regarding torque, the combined output is set to surpass the previous Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid‘s 900 Nm (664 pound-feet). The internal combustion engine (ICE) will produce more than 500 hp, while the electric motor will contribute nearly 200 hp. This electric motor will draw power from an enhanced battery with a capacity boosted by over 30%, along with improved fast-charging capabilities.

At speeds exceeding 186 mph (300 km/h) – slightly surpassing its predecessor’s 183 mph (295 km/h) – this impressive vehicle showcases its capabilities. Though the specific 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time remains undisclosed, its predecessor achieved the feat in 3.8 seconds. It’s worth considering whether the enhanced plug-in hybrid configuration will be reserved for the anticipated electrified Lamborghini Urus scheduled for 2024, given their shared MLB Evo platform and mechanical kinship between the two SUVs.

It appears that we’ll need to exercise some patience until the official reveal. Given the upcoming IAA Munich event in early September, Porsche might consider unveiling the plug-in hybrid V8 Cayenne there. This could be an opportunity for them to showcase the luxurious flagship model of the European variant.
