The Porsche 718 Spyder RS truly embodies a Cayman GT4 RS that has undergone the removal of its roof. In its position rests a detachable and manual cloth roof. The sun shade consisting of one layer and the wind deflector together have a total weight of 40.3 pounds (18.3 kilograms), rendering the roof 16.7 lbs (7.6 kg) lighter than that of the 718 Spyder. Simultaneously, it is 36.3 lbs (16.5 kg) lesser in weight than the roof of the 718 Boxster.
When it comes to mass, the new 718 Spyder RS balances out at 3,108 pounds (1,410 kilograms), shedding 88 pounds (40 kilograms) compared to the non-RS version. Except for the top, it bears a striking resemblance to its coupe kin. The final 718 equipped with an internal combustion engine has been reduced in height by 1.18 inches (30 millimeters) and rests on 20-inch wheels, which can be substituted with the optional magnesium rims.
Porsche claims it isn’t an exact replica of the Cayman GT4 RS as the Spyder RS undergoes distinct adjustments for the springs and dampers to attain a more pleasant journey, aligning with the customer’s desired experience from a convertible. It is possible to acquire the sports car with a Weissach Package, incorporating exhaust tip styling inspired by the 2018 935, a homage to the legendary 935/78 Le Man’s track car, famously known as “Moby Dick.”
Reflecting the flagship Cayman, its convertible counterpart utilizes the identical naturally aspirated 4.0-litre motor acquired from the 911 GT3. It generates 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet (450 Newton-meters) of torque transmitted to the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK. This combination yields a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) time of 3.4secs and a 0-124 mph (200 km/h) time of 10.9 seconds to correspond with the Cayman GT4 RS. At its maximum, it will achieve a speed of 191 mph (308 km/h), slightly lower than the coupe by 4 mph (7 km/h).
The Porsche 718 Spyder RS can now be preordered in Germany, with a starting price of €151,215. Interested buyers from the US can also purchase it at a starting price of $160,700, plus an additional $1,450 delivery fee. For those who want more, the 718 RS is available with a complementary timepiece in a sleek titanium case. The vehicle’s official unveiling will be held at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, with deliveries scheduled to begin at that time.
The availability of the Spyder RS in the UAE and other Gulf countries isn’t confirmed yet.
