The B-segment crossovers, being among the most popular and sought-after automobiles, present a highly competitive market space for manufacturers to contend with. The renowned French automaker has thus taken it upon itself to ensure that its 2008 model retains its allure and competitiveness in the race for market share. To this end, Peugeot has embarked on a mid-cycle facelift aimed at aligning the vehicle with the latest visual identity that Peugeot introduced earlier this year with the 508 model.

Exterior

One of the most striking changes to the 2008 model is the inclusion of the claw-like triple vertical lights, which are expertly incorporated into the glossy black inserts built into the vehicle’s bumper. Furthermore, the flagship GT trim takes things a notch higher, extending the vehicle’s signature look into the full-LED headlights.

Traversing towards the posterior region, Peugeot has executed modifications to the LED taillamps to augment the “three claw” theme by employing three superimposed horizontal twin planks. It is worth mentioning that the signal indicators and reversing illumination also belong to the LED category. Other fresh elements concerning the exterior incorporate 16- to 18-inch wheels modeled after those proffered for the 408. Selenium Grey symbolizes the introductory hue, whilst the GT variation boasts a two-tone colour with a black rooftop as a customary feature. Irrespective of the shade, all 2008s will obtain black side mirror covers.

Interior

Upon entering, each and every variant of the 2024 Peugeot 2008 employs a 10-inch touchscreen, which represents a notable upgrade from the previous iteration, wherein the first two trims were equipped with a comparatively diminutive seven-inch display. For those who opt for the Allure or GT models, a novel and recently designed 10-inch digital instrument cluster awaits, replete with a 3D effect. Conversely, those who settle for the base Active variant shall be greeted with the once-conventional analog dials, which provide a classic and unassuming charm to the otherwise modern and cutting-edge crossover. Especially, versions furnished with a manual gearbox have been the recipient of a redesigned shift knob.

Powertrains

More substantial transformations have transpired beneath the refreshed surface of the E-2008, as Peugeot has augmented its capabilities, rendering it even more potent and efficient. The vehicle now inherits the underlying machinery from the E-208 and E-308 models, affording it an electric motor swanking a commendable 156 horsepower (115 kW), representing an impressive 15% surge in power.

Moreover, the battery pack has undergone expansion from 50 to 54 kWh, a change that has resulted in an elevation in the WLTP range during the combined cycle, moving it from 345 to 406 kilometers (214 to 252 miles).

In the onset of 2024, the powertrain assortment shall witness an expansion in the form of a recent hybrid that integrates a 136-hp petrol engine coupled with a six-speed, twin-clutch automatic gearbox that features an electric motor. This configuration has been purported to reduce fuel consumption by almost 15 percent relative to a non-hybrid petrol engine. Markedly, Peugeot has made a rather bold assertion, claiming that the automobile is expected to be operated in a purely electric mode for more than half of the drives in urban settings.

For those who prefer a less complicated power unit, the automaker with the feline insignia continues to retail the 2008 model with a turbocharged petrol mill, boasting a mere three cylinders and a displacement of 1.2 litres. It creates 100 horsepower when paired with a six-speed manual transmission, and 130 horsepower when coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the other hand, prospective buyers may choose the 1.5-litre diesel engine, furnished with a four-cylinder layout, which has been appraised at 130 horsepower and is exclusively obtainable with the automatic transmission.

Availability

Scheduled for release in the upcoming summer, the 2024 Peugeot 2008 model will be accompanied by the fully electric E-2008 variant.
