The joint venture of two world’s biggest tech firms, Sony Honda Mobility has created a new EV brand named Afeela. CEO Yasuhide Mizuno announced this at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas during Sony’s press conference.

The declaration came alongside the brand’s Vision-S concept car that came sporting ‘Afeela’ badge on the front end. It is actually not a traditional logo; rather is an embedded screen on the front nose that displays the brand’s name as well as info about the weather, charging state, etc. We cannot tell from the pictures how different it is from the Vision-S prototype the company introduced some years back. For that, we need to contact Afeela directly.

Regarding the chosen name ‘Afeela,’ Mizuno San only told us that the inspiration behind it was the word ‘feel’. The EVs will be built around what you feel and what the car feels.

The good news is we have found out when the first Afeela EV will hit the roads. The CEO told the media that customers will be able to pre-order in 2025, and sales will start by the year’s end. The deliveries to far-off places like North America will start in 2026.

Mizuno was joined by other company executives who gave more details on the upcoming EV. They told us that the first Afeela would use 45 sensors and cameras and boast top-class entertainment. The passengers will be able to enjoy movies, music, and games. The chipsets will come from Qualcomm, while Epic Games will offer Unreal Engine for graphical presentation.
