Volkswagen offers a good number of ID models in Europe, ranging from ID.3 to ID.6. However, in the U.S. and some other parts of the world, ID.4 is the only EV available from VW. Apart from the upcoming ID.Buzz, a new EV, will arrive in North America and hopefully the Gulf States.
Officially named the Volkswagen ID.7, it is a sedan VW showcased at the 2023 CES sporting digital camouflage. It is the world premiere of the ID.7 nameplate, and although we cannot clearly see the design cues, we can get an idea of the size and scope.
What we know so far is that the new VW EV employs the brand’s modular electric drive matrix platform (MEB) that underpins all other EVs from the brand. Here, it stretches all the way to 194.5 inches with 116.9 inches of wheelbase. The dimensions make it 3.0 inches lengthier than the Arteon, so we can expect a spacious cabin and extended cargo space.
“With the new ID.7, we are extending our electric model range into the upper segments,” stated CEO Thomas Schafer. “The sedan will offer top-class technology and quality.”
To make the interior more upscale, VW will offer a new 15.0-inch display, well-lit touch sliders, an augmented reality head-up display, and digitally regulated air vents that mechanically alter interior temperature according to the exterior temperature. “Hello Volkswagen” will enable the driver and passengers to manage different functions.
The stunning “digital camouflage” appears to be a pretty good option for the production models, but that will not be a part of the lineup. To get a good idea of what the car would look like, you should see the ID.Aero concept, introduced last year. The concept gives a fair idea of the final design of the ID.7 sedan.
Sadly, we couldn’t get word on the battery capacity and power figures, nor do we know about the price. However, the German automaker said it would deliver approximately 435 miles (700 kilometers) of range according to WLTP European cycle. The range will of course be a little low on the U.S. EPA cycle.
VW plans to sell the ID.7 in China, Europe, America, and hopefully in the Gulf as well.
