The SAIC-GM is a joint brand producing Buick cars in China. The automaker has unveiled the 2023 Electra E5, Buick’s first Ultium-based EV. It is also the first model that sports the company’s new tri-shield emblem as well as boasts the company’s new front-end design language. It is a midsize crossover with a long wheelbase, perfect for family hauling.

If the design looks familiar, you might have seen the Electra-X concept, which the company showed in June. The Electra E5 first emerged on China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) website and at that time, we didn’t know if it would be available in other parts of the world. However, recent spy shots suggest it will be accessible in North America and other parts of the world, hopefully in the Gulf as well.

So, let’s talk about the things we know. The new EV has a length of 4,892 millimeters (192.6 inches), a width of 1,905 mm (75 in), and a height of 1,655 mm (65.1 in). The wheelbase is a good 2,954 mm (116.2 in), making it equal to the Chevy Equinox EV. However, the Electra E5 is 2.2 inches lengthier on the whole than the Equinox EV.

Buick is silent about the technical specs, but we came to know through MIIT that the E5 will have a single-motor, capable of producing 241 hp (180 kW). We are also aware of the curb weight, which stands at 2,570 kilograms (5,666 pounds) and a maximum velocity of 112 mph (180 km/h). We believe a dual-motor model will be available later on.

We will get complete details of the new Electra E5 on the launch, which will happen soon. The GM-SAIC has been doing great since its launch in 1998. The group has dispatched over 10 million cars over the years.
