The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety has honoured the 2023 Kia EV6 with the top rating. The third in the brand’s lineup, the EV gets the Top Safety Pick+ accolade, followed by the 2022 Kia K5 and 2022 Stinger.
The new EV6 received a “good” score in all six collision examinations comprising driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint assessments. Moreover, the all-electric Kia has got a “superior” score for front crash prevention and a “good” grade for its standard headlights.
Kia has discontinued the EV6 Light model with rear-wheel drive and replaced it with the new entry-level Wind trim level. The new entry point to the zero-emission EV will be accessible in both RWD and AWD. The rear-wheel-drive Wind variant starts at $49,795, which is $7,100, costlier than the previous Light model.
For performance fans, Kia has introduced the new EV6 GT. It is the most robust model in the range, delivering immediate torque using two electric motors that produce 576 horsepower (430 kilowatts), enabling the vehicle to hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in only 3.4 seconds. EPA estimates the range at 206 miles (332 kilometers).
Coming back to the IIHS safety rating, the 2023 Kia EV6 is the 10th model in the brand’s lineup to receive one of the two top safety honours. Besides, the three models that earned Top Safety Pick+, the 2022 Kia Telluride, 2022 Sorento, 2022 Seltos, 2022 Carnival, 2022 Sportage, and 2022 Soul have earned the Top Safety Pick honour – the second highest ranking from the IIHS.
