The Vietnam-based EV automaker has revealed two utility vehicles at the 2022 LA Auto Show. Named the VF 6 and VF 7, the small SUVs were present at the show alongside their big brothers, the VF 8 and VF 9, which debuted in 2021.
We have already seen the VF 6 and VF 7 at the Paris Motor Show, so these reveal at the LA Show are essentially the US versions. The automaker didn’t tell us when these will be accessible in North America, nor do we know their prices.
As the names suggest, these will sit below the VF 8, which demands a starting price of $42,200 and a battery subscription, or $57,000 with battery value integrated. More on battery subscription later!
The things we know so far; the entry-level VF 6 Eco model will create 176 horsepower (130 kilowatts) or 201 hp (150 kW) for the Plus. The VF 7, in its base form, will be able to generate 201 horsepower, and that would increase to 349 horsepower (260 kW) for the range-topping Plus trim.
It will be the only model to come equipped with an all-wheel-drive, so others will offer front-wheel drive only. The Plus models will have vegan leather interiors and panoramic glass roofs.
About the design, the VF 8 and VF 9 are designed by Pininfarina, while the VF 6 and VF 7 are sketched by Torino Design.
VinFast is also mum about the range estimates and recharging speeds.
Regarding vehicle pricing, the automaker gives customers an option of either buying the vehicle paying the complete cost of the battery or opting for a monthly subscription for the battery use. It’s a new idea to cut the price of an electric vehicle. However, the subscription won’t be low, with the VF 8 demanding $169 per month and the VF 9 asking for $219 per month – for only the battery use. That said, the subscription not only covers battery maintenance but also its replacement once the charging ability gets under 70 per cent.
