The Japanese automaker has introduced the new Delica Mini model to commemorate the nameplate’s 55th anniversary. It is a boxy, small van we can only see in the images for now, with a full reveal slated for the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. The little off-road capable Delica will hit the roads sometime next year.

As it is only a preview from Mitsubishi, the automaker is not ready to share any technical details. However, seeing the images, we can tell it is a Kei car, based on the eK car.

What we know is that it will be a four-wheel drive and it will be a hybrid. The eK is also available with an electrified powertrain and all-wheel-drive in its home market.

The “lightweight, super height wagon” will come with a sliding door, as we find in the eK Space and its rebadged model, Nissan Roox. The hybrid Mini gets very small skid plates, half-circular headlights, and square wheel curves. The Delica Mini will sport two-tone paint and dark silver alloys.

The rugged, pint-sized car will probably have the same dimensions as the eK. It will be 3395 mm (133.7 in) long and 1475 mm (58.1 in) wide with a wheelbase of 2495 mm (98.2 in). Differing by the model, its height will be anything from 1640 to 1660 mm (64.6 to 65.4 in).

The powertrain will remain the same as for any Kei car in Japan. Therefore, expect it to feature a 658-cc turbocharged petrol, getting assistance from an electric motor and a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

For more details, we have to wait for the official debut in January 2023.
