Opel has revealed the Grandland GSe, a Grand Sport electric vehicle that joins the Asra GSe hatchback and wagon. It was first introduced as Hybrid4 model but now will be sold under the Grandland GSe nameplate.
The compact crossover features a turbo 1.6-litre petrol engine that gets aid from two electric motors to produce up to 296 horsepower. The power goes to all the wheels, enabling the crossover to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in a decent 6.1 seconds on its way to a top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h). The electric mode will limit the max speed to 84 mph (135 km/h).
Similar to the Astra GSe, the sporty PHEV uses a reworked suspension and recalibrated steering for more dynamic handling. The hybrid gets McPherson struts at the front and a multi-link rear with tougher springs and dampers, taking advantage of Koni’s Frequency Selective Damping (FSD) tech. The crossover sports 19-inch wheels that look inspired by the rad Manta Gse concept.
To make it stand out in the range, the Grandland GSe gives buyers an option to paint the hood black, complemented with the roof and side mirror caps. It also received a customised rear diffuser and unique badging on the tailgate. The interior gets Alcantara seats with excellent lateral aid.
GSe is successfully substituting GSi, as the marquee speeds up for the electric transformation. It’s going to happen sooner than most of us were expecting because Stellantis has pledged to ditch all Opel/Vauxhall vehicles with ICEs in Europe by 2028. By 2030, all the vehicles from the Stellantis group will only sell EVs in Europe.
