Sony and Honda have collaborated to create an electric car that will hit the road in 2026. The joint venture is named Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), and it will develop an EV for North American markets initially.
The Sony Honda EV will sell online, and the SHM will start taking orders by the end of 2025. The plan is to make the car more tech-oriented than any other EV brand. Therefore, the focus is on tech and software innovations through metaverse and self-driving capabilities. The high-tech would be an optional and subscription-based service, so it might not be offered for the base model.
It is worth noting that the Sony Honda vehicle will be a luxury car, but we cannot tell anything about its appearance. The SHM didn’t share any image of the vehicle yet, but we know Sony has already revealed two concept cars in the last couple of years.
The Sony Vision S and Vision S 02 are two sleekly designed electric vehicle concepts that made us believe they are production ready. However, Sony denied earlier they had any plans to develop them. Fast forward to today, the tech giant has partnered with Japanese automaker Honda to materialize their plans, thanks to the growing EV market. It is still not clear whether the Sony Honda EV will borrow design cues and tech from the Sony concepts or not.
The Sony Honda electric car will be available by mid or late 2026.
