BMW introduced the refreshed X7 in April and Alpina came with their version of the big SUV soon after. Named the XB7, Alpina retained the split headlight fascia of the X7 and now the company has revealed the new power figure, which is a little higher than what they claimed before. There are so many other things we now know about the 2023 Alpina XB7. Let’s find out:
Exterior
The XB7 looks almost the same as the X7 with split headlights and huge kidney grilles that glow. The waterfall light function is also available. The rear gets more aggressive with a couple of restyled exhaust pipes.
The XB7 sports standard 21-inch wheels and 285/45R21 tires front and rear. A pair of 23-inch alloys are available featuring Alpina Classic 20-spoke style. These get Pirelli special performance summer tires with 285/35R23 at the front and 325/35R23 at the back. Besides, four-piston brake calipers from Brembo perform braking duty upfront.
Powertrain
The 2023 XB7 uses the stock 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 assisted by mild-hybrid technology. The engineers at Alpina worked hard to improve its power output and it is now 9 hp more (630 horsepower (470 kilowatts)) than what they announced previously (at 621 hp (457 kW)). The maximum torque doesn’t change at 590-pound-feet (800 Newton-meters), which is accessible from just 1,800 rpm up to 5,600 rpm. This massive power goes to all the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
Alpina claims a 0 to 60 miles per hour (0 to 96 kilometre per hour) sprint in only 3.9 seconds while its way to the maximum speed of 180 mph (290 kph). The quarter-mile run will take just 12.4 seconds.
To make the vehicle stable at corners, the SUV gets an intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an electronically-variable limited-slip differential. The system alters the degree of lock based on wheel speed, friction coefficient, steering angle, etc.
Interior
Worth praising inside is the new BMW iDrive infotainment system with enhanced voice control capability and more customization options. The safety tech has also been improved by using GPS data and trajectory data.
Price
The 2023 Alpina XB7 is available for pre-order in the U.S. at a starting price of $145,000 (excluding destination charge). The customers will get the deliveries at the start of 2023.
