Apple has revealed the new iterations of their most wanted devices. Yes, we are talking about the iPhone and the Apple Watch. The new iPhone 14 will employ the iOS 16, while the Apple Watch will use the WatchOS 9, boasting more capabilities than ever, which are even life-saving for the drivers.
The Cupertino-based tech firm’s new iPhone 14 and Watch boast a car crash detection feature. These devices employ certain sensors which will activate once they detect a car collision. When such an unfortunate incident happens, the devices will automatically inform emergency contacts and services if the user doesn’t reply to the screen notification within 10 seconds.
The crash detection facility will be accessible on all the new iPhone 14 models, including iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max, in addition to the new Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE, and the all-new Apple Watch Ultra.
So how does this feature works? It first employs the barometer, which senses the cabin pressure alterations while the GPS detects the speed changes. The microphone also comes into play by detecting loud noises that are a consequence of a severe vehicle collision.
On the other hand, the more robust gyroscope and accelerometer on Apple Watch – which the firm believes to retain the highest dynamic range accelerometer in any smartwatch – activates.
Apple has developed an algorithm through the collection of data from the latest motion sensors. The devices were put in typical passenger vehicles in test labs where they endured simulated real-world collisions, comprising head-on, rear-end, side-impact, and rollovers.
Moreover, Apple revealed that “advanced Apple-designed motion algorithms trained with over a million hours of real-world driving and crash record data provide even better accuracy.”
Once a collision occurs, the first emergency alert the driver would get will appear on the Smartwatch because it will be the closest to the user. The emergency call will route to the nearby medical service by the iPhone.
The new Apple iPhone 14 series, Apple Watch Series 8, and Apple Watch SE will hit the shelves in most parts of the world on September 16.
