Cadillac gave a glimpse of Celestiq electric vehicle about two years ago through an image and told us it would be the brand’s new flagship car. Now the company has revealed the show car for the first time, giving us a good idea of its exterior and interior designs.
Technically, it is a concept car, not a production model, and the full specifications will be disclosed before the end of this year. However, some of the tech and facilities we can see here will be accessible for buyers.
These comprise a 55-inch sloping display covering the full dashboard, including a separate display for the driver and the front passenger, along with the infotainment display. The active privacy tech will prevent the driver from peeking at the passenger display.
The rear occupants will have their own screens that will be a part of the total of five HD displays the flagship car will offer. The glass roof above the occupants has its own unique features and is known as Smart Glass Roof. Cadillac has employed Suspended Particle Device technology to let all the occupants inside alter incoming light intensity the way they want. The Ultra Cruise driver assist system will allow them to do that through a voice command.
The automaker didn’t disclose anything on the powertrain, except that it will employ GM’s Ultium platform. Moreover, the automaker told us it will be its flagship sedan that takes encouragement from prewar Cadillac V-16s and the 1957 Eldorado Brougham.
“Those vehicles represented the pinnacle of luxury in their respective eras, and helped make Cadillac the standard of the world,” said Tony Roma, chief engineer. “The Celestiq show car — also a sedan, because the configuration offers the very best luxury experience — builds on that pedigree and captures the spirit of arrival they expressed.”
The exterior styling is certainly revolutionary and remarkable, with a swooping fastback design containing a long hood and a muscular grille that glows, bordered by vertically-shaped driving lights.
“The Celestiq show car is the purest expression of Cadillac,” said Cadillac Advanced Design Manager Magalie Debellis. “It brings to life the most integrated expressions of design and innovation in the brand’s history, coalescing in a defining statement of a true Cadillac flagship.”
So, how many things from the show car we will be able to see in the production version? Well, if we consider the Cadillac Lyriq’s production cycle, from concept to production, we say all of the things you see here.
The new Cadillac Celestiq will hit the assembly lines at GM’s Global Technical Center, which is receiving updates to start production. It is the first vehicle that will go into production here.
