The new Rogue hit the American roads more than two years ago but its X-Trail counterpart was unveiled for the Chinese markets at the 2021 Shanghai Auto Show. The midsize sports utility vehicle is now introduced in its home market where it uses the worldwide X-Trail nameplate. The SUV will also be available for Europe this summer. Analyzing the US-bound Rogue with the JDM X-Trail, we see one big change in the SUV.

Well, it is the new powertrain. The new US-spec Rogue ditched the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre to add an economical turbocharged three-cylinder this year. On the other hand, the JDM X-Trail is also available with Nissan’s branded e-4ORCE configuration. The second-generation drivetrain offers improved efficiency and quietness.

e-4ORCE Model

The e-4ORCE uses a 1.5-litre petrol mill with variable compression, but it doesn’t work like conventional engines. It is actually used as a generator to create electricity for the two available motors that power the wheels. The engine works continually, keeping in view the optimum efficiency, thus it produces lower emissions and consumes less fuel than the conventional internal combustion engine cars. Besides the X-Trail, the Nissan Qashqai (called Rogue Sport in America) uses e-4ORCE as well.

The entry-level JDM X-Trail does not use the hybrid setup, instead employs the same 1.5-litre engine powering the front wheels. The e-4ORCE model also comes equipped with e-Pedal Step. It is Nissan’s tech eliminating the requirement of pushing the brake pedal for deceleration. When you take your foot off the acceleration pedal, the vehicle decelerates automatically.

Nissan will offer the new X-Trail in two-row and three-row seating configurations along with a 100V AC power source offering the top output of 1,500 watts. It will have the capability to be utilized as an emergency power supply.

Other important features you would find in the JDM X-Trail include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and an infotainment display of the same size, along with an elective head-up display spanning 10.8 inches on the windscreen. The seating would get water-repellent Tailor Fit and Cell-Cloth or Nappa leather upholsteries. On the outside, Nissan offers 12 shades with five two-tone finishes.

Price

The starting price is set at 3,198,800 yen (around $23,100 at present exchange rates) and goes up to 4,499,000 yen ($32,600). The entry-level X-Trail is available in only a two-row configuration.
