Mercedes-Benz introduced the GLK-Class more than a decade earlier and was renamed GLC in 2015. The change of name didn’t drop the sales of the Mercedes’ one of the best-selling models. To spice up this offering, the automaker has introduced the new generation of the GLC. Welcome the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC that comes in the USA in two grades – the GLC 300 and the GLC 300 4Matic. Other variants will come later.

Powertrain

Both the available variants get a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid tech boasting a second-generation Integrated Starter-Generator (ISG). The gasoline mill cranks 258 horsepower (192 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton-meters) of torque. The ISG creates an extra 23 hp (17 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque increase.

The power goes to the rear wheels in the GLC 300 and all the wheels in the GLC 4Matic. In the USA, the nine-speed transmission is exclusive for these two variants enabling them to accelerate to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 6.2 seconds.

The GLC boasts 4.5 degrees of rear-wheel steering, but it will not be accessible for the U.S. variants owing to a low take rate.

Improved Size

The new 2023 GLC is a little bigger than its predecessor. Its entire length grew by 2.4 inches to 185.7 with the wheelbase increase of 0.6 inches. While the vehicle’s width is the same as before, the front and rear tracks improve by 0.3 and 1.9 inches, respectively. The bigger size means more room for occupants inside as well as for the luggage, which grows by 1.8 cubic feet to 21.2.

Apart from improving its size, the engineers also lowered its drag coefficient from 0.31 to 0.29. Other parts that received optimization include the underbody paneling, wheels and wheel spoilers, roof spoiler, etc. All the updates come to improve the vehicle’s comfort and efficiency.

New Exterior

The 2023 Mercedes GLC boasts a new styling with slim headlights, an updated greenhouse and all-new rear-end with new taillights. It certainly appears sportier than before. Wheels are available between 18 and 20 inches along with the optional running boards and Digital Light.

Tech Updates

The 2023 GLC is enthused by the new S-Class. As we enter inside, we find a 12.3-inch driver display and an 11.9-inch central screen boasting a second-generation MBUX infotainment system. The dashboard and doors design are new and there are plenty of technologies to make your journeys convenient such as wireless charging and heated front seats.

When it comes to technology, how can the German automaker forget about advanced safety? The new Driving Assistance Package is a part of the deal as well as its updated Active Distance Assist Distronic, which can work at speeds of up to 60 mph, (previously it was 30 mph).

Price and Availability

The company didn’t reveal the launch date of the new GLC crossover, neither they gave any hint of the pricing. However, we know that Mercedes will launch a plug-in hybrid model soon. The performance-focused AMG GLC will be available next year.

For comparison, we can tell the 2022 GLC starts at AED 196,976 here in the UAE. The AMG model goes for AED 393,530.
