2023 Subaru Solterra EV Preview

Powertrain

The Solterra boasts a dual-motor setup generating 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts) and 248 pound-feet (336 Newton-metres) of torque. While its mechanical sibling Toyota bZ4X comes with a standard front-wheel-drive (AWD optional), the Solterra is only available in all-wheel drive, featuring Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.

All the variants house a 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery pack with an estimated range of 228 miles (367 kilometers). Subaru says the Solterra can regain 80 per cent of its charge in less than 30 minutes.

Exterior

The new Solterra EV gives buyers five colour choices – Galtatic Black, Smoked Carbon, Harbor Mist Gray Pearl, Elemental Red Pearl, and Cosmic White Pearl. The first two shades are no-cost options with only the Smoked Carbon available in two-tone for an additional $495. The three other hues cost an extra $395. The flagship Touring gets a two-tone shade for an extra $890.

Safety

Expect the new Solterra to get the Subaru’s new EyeSight driver-assist suite with emergency steering assist, intersection collision avoidance support, pre-collision brake assist, lane departure prevention, and dynamic radar cruise control with the lane-tracing assist.

Standard Features

The standard amenities include a 7-inch LCD gauge display and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto compatibility. Other regular features for the Premium are automatic climate control and five USB ports with two USB C charging connections for passengers at the back.

Step up the Limited and you get LED fog lights and a roof spoiler along with 20-inch wheels, instead of the 18-inch available on the Premium. Inside, the Limited receives a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a wireless charging pad as well as a 360-degree camera system, offering an overhead outlook for helping in tight drills. Parking assist with braking support and a rear cross-traffic warning are also part of the package. Other salient amenities for the Limited grade comprise a 10-way power driver’s seat, a heated steering wheel, and a Harman Kardon stereo.

Those who have the sums to buy the range-topping Touring will get everything the Limited offers plus more. Adding a panoramic moonroof with a power sunshade along with the front ventilated seats! Last but not least, it offers a digital rearview mirror and LED lighting for the front and rear footwells.

Those who buy the new 2023 Solterra will have two options when it comes to charging their EV. They can either get an EVgo Charging Credit or benefit from a lower purchase price and installation of a QMerit Level 2 home charger.
