Kia brought the Sportage for the 2022 model year, boasting revolutionary styling, but that wasn’t the only thing the automaker updated for the new model. The South Korean automaker also added a hybrid model in the lineup for the first time. We already know the pricing details for the non-hybrid crossover, and now the company has released prices for the 2022 Kia Sportage Hybrid.

Price

The initial price for the 2022 Kia Sportage Hybrid is $28,545 (all prices comprise the $1,255 destination fee). This price is for the base LX variants with a front-wheel-drive layout. Stepping up the ladder for the LX variant increases the cost to $30,345.

There are two more versions available for the Hybrid – the EX and SX-Prestige. Both come equipped with an all-wheel-drive system at a starting price of $32,245 and $37,445, respectively. For comparison, the non-hybrid Sportage LX goes for $27,205, while the all-wheel-drive bumps the price to $29,005.

Hybrid Powertrain

The Sportage Hybrid’s powertrain encompasses a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder and a 44-kilowatt electric motor getting assistance from a 1.5-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. The combined power the system produces is 226 horsepower (166 kilowatts), an obvious increase over the entry-level non-hybrid model that generates 187 hp (138 kW) and 178 pound-feet (242 Newton-meters) of torque through a 2.5-litre four-cylinder.

Range & Towing

Kia believes this hybrid system will enable the crossover to cover more than 500 miles (800 kilometres) on a full tank of petrol. The automaker is optimistic the Sportage Hybrid will deliver up to 39 miles per gallon of fuel economy and tow up to 2,000 pounds (907 kilograms).

Interior Facilities

The interior is similar to its non-hybrid sibling, boasting a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen alongside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the regular package.

Safety

Besides, there are plenty of active safety features such as forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, driver attention monitoring, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the non-hybrid version five out of five stars.

Packages

Kia offers various packages for the Sportage Hybrid similar to what we get in the non-hybrid model. For instance, the LX Value Edition package ($2,100) gives you a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, upgraded cloth seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, heated front seats, proximity keyless entry, and push-button start.

Similarly, the Nightfall Premium package ($2,000 without AWD) adds LED taillights, a leather-wrapped shift knob, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a universal garage door opener, satellite radio, a rear USB port, an electronic parking brake, adaptive cruise control, wireless device charging, proximity keyless entry, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.

Availability

While the non-hybrid Sportage is already on sale in the U.S. and the UAE, the Sportage Hybrid will be available in U.S. dealerships soon. We do not have any news of its availability in the UAE yet.

Kia also has plans to bring Sportage with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, we do not have any info about that model yet.
