Toyota will finally pull the wraps off its hot hatch, the GR Corolla on Thursday 31st March and stream the launch at 9:30 PM EDT (1:30 AM GMT on April 1). To spice up things and boost the anticipation among the fans, the Japanese automaker has issued a couple of teaser images along with a short teaser video.
Speaking of these teaser images, the first one you can see above shows the car’s front fender. A tall opening featuring black, horizontal strakes positions itself behind the wheel well. It could also serve as a cooling medium for brakes as the air enters from the nose and passes through it. It is the GR Corolla, which is evident through the GR emblem.
The second teaser image you can see above shows the side sill under the doors. It sports “GR-Four” lettering engraved into the panel. It implies the new GR Corolla will come equipped with an all-wheel-drive layout that the automaker employs for the GR Yaris, as well.
If you are following the news regarding the GR Corolla, you might be aware of some of its specifications. Earlier, we came to know that it would house a 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that also propels the GR Yaris. The engine pumps out 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts), which is the same output the GR Yaris Japan offers, against 257 hp (192 kW) in Europe.
Speaking of previous teasers and information, we are sure to have the new Toyota GR Corolla with a manual transmission. We also know that the automaker has a GR Yaris model that employs an eight-speed automatic transmission. Some experts believe it could also be a part of the package for the GR Corolla. However, it might not be accessible initially.
Those who are very keen on Gazoo Racing products might remember a teaser video of the GR86. The video actually has a glimpse of the GR Corolla as well. In that video, we saw some executives responding to a pitch from the Gazoo Racing squad. The video contains a scene containing the Supra and GR86 driving alongside each other and one of the executives suggested having a third car in the race. Then the next scene we see is rear of a hatchback hidden in a dark workhouse.
All we have gathered so far signifies that the GR Corolla will come only in hatchback guise. There is no info or an image that proposes the sedan model for the GR Corolla. Whatever is the case, we will get all the information about this new hot hatch from Toyota in two days.
Stay tuned for updates!
