We are all aware that Hennessey made the Venom F5 to create history by hitting the 300-mph mark. However, the company still isn’t ready to unleash its speed beast for the high-speed run. That said, the hypercar is making gradual strides towards its dream velocity.
First, it reached 200 mph (322 km/h) during the aerodynamic authentication examination in 2021 and then 250 mph (402 km/h) in January 2022 during fast-speed analysis. The hypercar with no airbags ran again and this time it hit 271.6 mph (437.1 km/h).
The run happened last month at the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds in Florida with an aim to perform decisive corrections for the steering, braking, engine, and aerodynamics. Putting it in speed terms, Hennessey’s focus wasn’t to unlock F5’s top speed limits as they did in earlier examinations. However, the hypercar still managed to hit 271.6 mph (437.1 km/h).
Those curious to see the Venom F5 shattering the top speed record will be disappointed after knowing the company’s focus is now on building cars. They are working towards achieving their maximum production strength and delivering at least twelve F5 cars this year.
It doesn’t mean they have abandoned their plans for top-speed testing. They will surely do it sometime in 2022 and when they will hit the test track, they plan to cross the 300-mph mark by unlocking the full potential of 1,817-horsepower V8.
Hennessey has already sold out all the planned 24 units of the Venom F5 for $2.1 million each. The hypercar employs a single-clutch, semi-automatic transmission with paddle shifters. When the American tuner-turned-automaker announced it, they marketed it to hit more than 311 mph (500 km/h) speed. For now, it is a claim and only time will tell if the car is capable of achieving this enormous speed. Other things that Hennessey claims and we believe are F5’s 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run in 2.6 seconds and 0-249 mph (0-400 km/h) sprint in only 15.5 seconds.
When it comes to registering itself in the Guinness Book of World Records for the top speed run, the Hennessey is not alone. The SSC North America has readied the Tuatara hypercar for this very purpose. With a bit of luck, Koenigsegg would also want to make another entry in the record books. Bugatti is already out of this race with plans to focus on just production and not the high-speed records.
The Chiron Super Sport 300+ did become the first car to go over 300 mph but that run was conducted in only one direction. If the company had wanted to make history that day, they would have tried a run in the other direction as well. However, the 304.77 mph is still very remarkable and hard to beat for any hypercar.
