After showing us various teasers, Maserati has finally introduced the Grecale crossover to compete against the Porsche Macan. Slotted under the Levante, the 2022 Maserati Grecale will be available in three trim levels – GT, Modena, and Trofeo as well as an all-electric model.

While the ICE Grecale models will be available this year, we have to wait for a year more for the EV model. The electric version will feature similar looks as the ICE models but will distinguish itself through its grille design and wheel pattern.

Design-wise, the 2022 Maserati Grecale looks sporty. Some may try finding its similarities with Ford Puma but Grecale has its own design character. Specifically, it looks stunning in the Trofeo flavour because of its body kit.

Powertrains

Speaking of the crossover’s powertrains, the range-topping Trofeo gets a 3.0-litre V6 borrowed from the MC20, boasting two turbochargers. The powerplant creates a massive 523 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 620 Newton-metres (457 pound-feet) of torque from 3,000 rpm. With this power, the Grecale can zoom to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in 3.8 seconds and max out at 177 mph (285 km/h).

The engine mates to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission powering all the wheels using a limited-slip electronic rear differential. The four-cylinder models also pair with AWD, getting assistance from either an open mechanical or a limited-slip mechanical diff.

Going down to the entry-level GT, the Grecale uses a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with mild-hybrid system yielding 296 hp at 5,750 rpm and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) from 2,000 rpm. On the other hand, the Modena is more powerful at 325 hp while offering the same torque power. The 0 to 60 acceleration time is 5.6 seconds for the GT or 0.3s lower for the Modena with a maximum speed of 149 mph (240 km/h).

Maserati has also shared some specs for the Grecale EV boasting a huge 105-kWh battery pack, capable of 400V charging, and a collective torque of 800 Nm (590 lb-ft).

Dimensions

The automaker confirms the crossover is 4,846 mm (191 in) long, 1,979 mm (77.9 in) wide, and 1,670 mm (66 in) tall. The rear wheel track of 1,948 mm (77 in) stretches by 34 mm (1.34 in) for the Modena and Trofeo. The wheelbase stands at 2,901 mm (114 in), meaning the rear occupants will never feel cramped.

Interior

The interior gets plenty of screens – four to be exact. We are talking about the digital driver’s screen, two displays on the centre console, and a clock display. The instrument cluster and higher display are 12.3 inches long while the lower screen is 8.8-inch diagonal.

Besides these, you can order more displays as well as get HUD, assuring class-leading viewing angles, contrast, and brightness. Similarly, you can ditch the standard 19-inch wheels and pay to get bigger 20- or 21-inch sets. Other optional equipment includes an advanced 21-speaker Sonus faber sound system with 1,000 watts of power.

Availability and Price

The 2022 Maserati Grecale will hit European roads in the first half of 2022, while deliveries in the USA will start this fall.

The pricing details are not confirmed yet but the introductory price for the GT starts at $63,500 for the GT and $77,400 for the Modena Limited Edition (without destination and handling charges).
