Maserati is going to bring a new GranTurismo. The new-generation Maserati GranTurismo Folgore is a zero-emission car that should have made its debut last year. However, things got delayed due to the ongoing pandemic situation. As expected from the Italian automaker, the EV will be highly powerful delivering a 1,200-horsepower (895-kilowatt) wallop.
While the GranTurismo Folgore will show its production-ready face next year, the teaser pictures give us some idea of its appearance. Seeing the shape, we can safely say the overall design isn’t a big departure from its previous model. However, the teasers aren’t very clear – the three images we have, show the car in wrap and shadow.
That said, we can clearly see aerodynamic tri-spoke wheels and a little different GranTurismo’s iconic grille.
The real magic happens under the hood. Since the production model is a year ahead, Maserati isn’t ready to give us full details of its powertrain. However, we learned that it will use a fresh platform employing three electric motors.
The Folgore EV will employ an 800-volt battery fixed low in the vehicle. The battery pack will be able to create the power of 1,200 horses driving all the wheels. With this power, the 0 to 60 mph sprint should be covered in less than three seconds with a maximum speed of 190 mph. Seeing these numbers, we can say Maserati’s first step into electrification means business.
After this first step, we will see Maserati shifting gears and moving quickly towards electrification. The Folgore will be followed by Grecale crossover EV that should hit the roads next year. Moving to 2025, we will get EV models for the popular Quattroporte, Levante as well as for the MC20.
All these models will go under the umbrella of the Maserati Folgore marque. By 2030, Maserati will totally shift to electrification. It means the production of all the ICE-powered vehicles will be stopped.
It appears like a quick transformation for a brand that is relatively new in the electrification realm with just two hybrids – Levante and Ghibli. However, all this is a part of the Stellantis Dare Forward 2030 plan that was introduced at the start of 2022.
Maserati was mum regarding the range, charge times, price, and other important information about its GrandTurismo Folgore EV. We might have to wait for a year to get these details.
