While Nissan replaced the Juke with Kicks in North America three years back due to low sales, the eccentric crossover is a hot-seller in Europe. To spice up the offering, the Japanese automaker is offering a new hybrid powertrain for European customers with sales starting this summer.

The 2022 Nissan Juke will be powered by a new 1.6-litre petrol engine getting assistance from two electric motors. The powertrain gets 94 horsepower (69 kilowatts) from the engine, 49-hp (36-kW) from an electric motor, and another 20-hp (15-kW) from the starter-generator. The battery pack is just 1.2-kWh of capacity.

Nissan says the new powertrain system will employ series, parallel, and series-parallel hybrid to increase efficiency. Surprisingly, with such a small battery, the engineers managed to get up to 80 per cent propulsion in EV mode within cities.

As you switch on the ignition, it initiates 100% in EV mode and continues to use electric energy for up to 34 miles per hour (55 kilometers per hour) speed.

Probably, the most exciting part of the powertrain is its low-friction auto transmission that employs four ICE gears and two EV gears with no real clutch. The company claims the hybrid powertrain drives like an EV.

Speaking of the design of the new 2022 Juke Hybrid, it looks similar to the internal combustion engine model, except for the new radiator grille with tinier air openings, a new lower bumper area for enhanced aerodynamics, and a re-outlined rear spoiler.

Nissan doesn’t officially offer the Juke here in the UAE, but you can own one through dealerships dealing in imported vehicles.
