Meet the South Korean automaker’s smallest crossover, the Hyundai Casper, which is just 3,595 millimeters (141.5 inches) long. The company has just introduced a new model for Casper in its home market aiming at small corporations with stores around the city.
Called the Casper Van, it doesn’t have back seats, stretching the cargo area to 940 litres (33.2 cubic feet). Similar to regular vans, a separator divides the seats from the load area. Moreover, we can see metal bars to shield windows and the rear windshield.
Moving the Casper is a three-cylinder 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated mill generating 75 hp (56 kW) and 95 Nm (70 lb-ft) of torque. For heavier towing, customers can opt for a more powerful turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder good for 99 hp and 172 Nm (127 lb-ft). Whatever engine you choose, the power goes to the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
At the present exchange rate, the Casper Van costs around $11,400 and becomes one of the most affordable small crossovers the money can buy. Being a small commercial van doesn’t mean Hyundai has held back on the good features.
The salient features include wonderful 15-inch steel wheels, six airbags, and heated and electric folding mirrors. Furthermore, the driver can adjust the seat manually and there are rear parking sensors and an old-fashioned foot-managed parking brake.
Hyundai didn’t even compromise on road safety; the engineers loaded it with lane-keeping assistance, a driver assistance system, cruise control, forward collision warning, and high-beam assistance. Other standard equipment encompasses LED daytime running lights, an adjustable steering wheel, and some USB ports.
The Hyundai Casper Van has hit the dealerships in South Korea. Availability in the UAE would only be possible through import.
