Long gone are the days when pickup trucks were used only as workhorses with standard mills. Today’s trucks are fast, stylish, lavish, and safer than ever, but all these facilities come at a steep price. For instance, the Ford F-150 Limited can set you back $73,000 with all bells and whistles. Toyota also wants to join this opulence bandwagon and boost its luxury credentials with the third-generation Tundra Capstone.

The best Tundra truck in the range comes with plenty of luxurious and sophisticated features along with the standard hybrid powertrain. The question is what makes the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone more desirable in the lineup.

Chrome

Well, it starts with Chrome inserts and we find it at multiple places. Chrome adorns the side mirror caps, door handles, the front grille’s grand mesh design, and the big “Tundra” script on the tailgate. Possibly, the most noticeable application of chrome is on the big 22-inch wheels, signifying the largest set Toyota ever fixed on a full-size bakkie.

Salient Features

Of course, the chrome alone doesn’t make a vehicle more stylish and opulent. The flagship Capstone comes with mechanically operated running boards that slide out when you enter the cabin. Moreover, the top-spec trim sports perforated leather upholstery for the black and white seats as well as real wood elements on the dash. Upon entering the truck, the front passenger sees a glowing Capstone emblem on the dashboard.

The panoramic moonroof, as well as the power bed step, are a standard affair. In addition, to make it stand out in the range, the automaker has fixed acoustic glass at the front doors. It would make the cabin a little silent. Those who have a little more to spend over the standard Capstone can enjoy rear self-leveling air suspension for a more comfortable journey.

Powertrain

The 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone carries the i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, which is evident from the hood badge. The powertrain is robust offering 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet (790 Newton-meters) of torque. The electric motor is assisted by a twin-turbo V6 that pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission, enabling the pickup truck to tow up to 10,340 pounds.

Layout and Paint

Toyota offers the Capstone exclusively in CrewMax configuration featuring a 5.5-foot bed. Buyers can have it in Wind Chill Pearl paint or any of the following shades: Supersonic Red, Midnight Black Metallic, Celestial Silver Metallic, Blueprint, and Magnetic Gray Metallic.

Price

Surprisingly, Toyota was mum about the price of Tundra Capstone. However, we can make a good guess. Seeing the Tundra 1794 Edition with a hybrid powertrain demanding $61,000, we can expect to pay more than $70,000 for the flagship model.

We hope to see the 2022 Tundra Capstone on the road this spring. Unfortunately, Toyota UAE doesn’t offer it here, so Tundra lover’s only option is to import it in the Emirates.
