Seeking a small Mazda car in the UAE, the smallest you can get is the Mazda3 compact sedan and hatchback. Unfortunately, the automaker doesn’t offer Mazda2 here. It has even been discontinued in other parts of the world including North America. Some might say it is available as a Yaris hatchback in the Emirates, but in the US, it is not even an option now.
However, the company offers even a smaller vehicle in the Japanese car market. Enter the Mazda Carol, which is a small but stylish Kei car from the Japanese carmaker with plenty of new updates for the 2022 model year. It is basically the same Kei car Suzuki makes. Yes, Suzuki Alto and Mazda Carol are the same cars.
The updated Mazda Carol has exactly the same dimensions as the Alto. It even has the same 658cc R06A inline-3 mill available in the Alto, in addition to the 657cc R06D mild-hybrid powertrain.
Astonishingly, Mazda also offers an all-wheel-drive model, but if you are looking for the most fuel-efficient variant, you better select the 2WD MHEV. According to the company, it returns up to 65.2 miles per gallon (27.7 kilometers per liter) on the WLTC cycle.
Suzuki and Mazda have been collaborating on the Kei cars since the ’80s when Mazda re-entered this particular car segment. While the Alto and Carol have similar body designs and dimensions, Mazda has distinct interior facilities compared to the Alto.
For the 2022 Mazda Carol, things remain the same. As Suzuki has unveiled the ninth-generation Alto in Japan this month, Mazda geared up to offer the eighth-generation Carol.
The 2022 Mazda Carol will hit the dealerships in Japan next month wearing a starting price tag of 998,800 yen or approximately $8,680 or AED 31,877 at the present exchange rates.
We might not be able to get the Mazda Carol in the UAE but that should not be an issue for us because Mazda has some stylish and reliable crossovers here, headed by the CX-5.
