Nissan introduced the Z sports car in August for the American markets but failed to produce the right-hand version for its home market. The time has come as the company is ready to showcase the Fairlady Z at the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon in January. The rear-wheel-drive coupe will hit the show floors in various configurations including a one-off concept car.
While Nissan didn’t reveal any image of the never-to-be-repeated model, we understand that it will have a “nod to the Z’s heritage and fan enthusiasm.” We heard that this example will complement well with the show’s “customizing atmosphere,” and will sport new design cues we have never witnessed before.
Previously, rumours were rife about a Nismo model for the Tokyo Salon 2022, but it seems that’s highly unlikely. This news didn’t amaze us because it is too soon for the Nismo version, and the Z still couldn’t hit the showrooms yet.
Regarding the power of the new Nissan Z for the Japanese markets, we are not expecting any upgrades. The 2022 Z will come equipped with a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 good for 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 newton-meters). The power goes to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual or a nine-speed automatic. We are hoping to see a clutch pedal for the JDM-spec Fairlady Z.
The Nissan Z won’t be the only car the company will display at the show. The revived sports car will shine on the floor alongside the GT500 and the GT-R Nismo special edition. Moreover, we will witness a few concepts inspired by the new Caravan van.
That’s not all! Expect to see the Nismo-spec Note Aura and a couple of custom concept cars together with the Ariya electric SUV and Kicks Columbia special edition. The latter is developed in associated with Columbia Sportswear Japan Co.
The Tokyo Auto Salon 2022 will be organised at the Makuhari Messe convention centre from January 14. The show will continue for three days.
