Motorists in the UAE will pay a little less than what they are dishing out in November for fuel. The fuel price committee has announced the UAE fuel price for December 2021.
Super 98, Special 95 and diesel will cost around 1 per cent less compared to November.
Here is the breakdown of new prices:
• Super 98: Dh2.77 – dropped from Dh2.80 in November
• Special 95: Dh2.66 – dropped from Dh2.69 in November
• Diesel: Dh2.77 – dropped from Dh2.81 in November
Fuel prices have been increasing significantly since March – from Dh1.80 for Special 95 in March, to a soaring Dh2.69 in November owing to the post-pandemic economic recovery in most parts of the world.
That said, after oil witnessed a multi-year peak in late October, the identification of the new Omicron variant shook the market. Last Friday, Brent fell 11.55 per cent while West Texas Intermediate plunged 13.06 per cent, in the biggest daily decline since April 2020.
Oil recovered yesterday from Friday’s Omicron-driven disorder. Brent, however, reduced some of its returns as Japan plans to continue accepting foreign visitors even after the new strain.
While the world is witnessing cases of the new Covid-19 variant, the World Health Organisation believes that it would take some time to understand the new strain.
