In a market that is dominated by crossovers, it has been long since we mentioned anything about Suzuki’s SX4 S-Cross. It came on the scene 15 years ago and was sold in select European markets by the name Fiat Sedici. The B-segment model has just entered its third generation and we felt the need to discuss it today. The 2022 Suzuki S-Cross has ditched its SX4 badge and in the meantime, it got a more attractive styling.

Its mature and rugged looks now stand side by side with its all-wheel-drive demeanour. Developed by Suzuki in Hungry, the 2022 S-Cross features a big piano black front grille edged by three-point LED headlights giving a contemporary manifestation. The heftier wheel arches with a plastic body covering in black also make it more dominant than the previous model.

At the back too, we can’t help but notice the wider and clear taillights along with the updated bumper to complement its outdoorsy character. Overall, the new 2022 Suzuki S-Cross appeared more mannered and capable than its predecessor.

While the automaker says it is an all-new crossover with a “complete changeover,” we beg to differ. For instance, it still has the same dimensions as the 2021 model: 4,300 millimetres long, 1,785 mm wide, and 1,585 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,600 mm.

Moreover, the doors are placed at the same position and we can say the same thing about the side vents in the interior. However, things like the 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility is new. Other things such as the climate controls, drive mode selector, and the gear lever all look the same.

Powering the 2022 Suzuki S-Cross is a turbocharged 1.4-litre gasoline engine assisted by a mild-hybrid tech good for 127 horsepower (95 kilowatts) and 235 Newton-meters (173 pound-feet) of torque. Suzuki also uses this set-up in Swift Sport. The S-Cross can hit 100 km/h from a standstill in 9.5 seconds with manual or 10.2 seconds with the four-wheel-drive model. The standard transmission is a six-speed manual, while six-speed auto is optional (standard in Allgrip variant).

Suzuki plans to start selling it in Europe from December while the sales for Latin America, Oceania, and Asia should initiate in 2022.
