The two-row variant of the Pilot, the Honda Passport, came on the scene two years ago and is now receiving its first significant renovation to better compete with its rivals. With the booming popularity of off-road vehicles lately, it was only natural to see a rugged variant from Honda. The new 2022 Honda Passport now comes with an off-road-focused TrailSport trim level.

The Trailsport’s updates are mostly cosmetic rather than mechanical and aerodynamic. However, it does come with wider front and rear tracks (+ 10 millimetres / 0.4 inches), making it more stable on the road. The Passport TrailSport uses new 18-inch special wheels covered in 245/60 R18 tires with sidewall tread “for an extra tough look.”

As is the case with other off-road-focused models, the 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport boasts a standard all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring. No changes in the power department, though; it is powered by the same 3.5-litre V6 pumping out 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts) and 262 pound-feet (355 Newton-meters) of torque, channelled to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Honda Passport TrailSport distinguishes itself from other variants in the range through its orange TrailSport symbols on the front grille and tailgate. The seats, steering wheel, and door cards also have an orange finish inside. Moreover, you can see TrailSport stitched onto the front seat headrests in addition to inscribed onto the rubber floor mats.

If you think these changes aren’t enough for an off-road model, Honda might agree with you. For this reason, they have already planned more updates for the next model. They are thinking of a more off-road-tuned suspension and fatter tires. Furthermore, other models will be able to adorn themselves with TrailSport specifications, such as more assertive bumpers and an exclusive grille design.

The 2022 Honda Passport refresh isn’t limited to just TrailSport. Other models, too, come with different features and packages. For instance, the HPD Package, developed by Honda Performance Development, boasts a new front grille, black fender flares, special wheels, and HPD visuals decorating the rear quarter panel.

Besides, the 2022 Passport sports larger exhaust finishers and reshaped bumpers, in addition to contrast stitching for the EX-L’s perforated leather seats. The standard features across the range include LED headlights, smart entry with push-button start, rear seat reminder, eight-inch infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as the advanced Honda Sensing safety suite.

The 2022 Honda Passport will hit the dealerships this winter.
