Mazda isn’t only going to ditch front-wheel drive for the CX-5. In fact, all of its crossovers will have AWD as a standard affair. The automaker said that all the 2022 CX SUVs, including the CX-30, CX-5, and CX-9, will be exclusively offered with a standard all-wheel drive.

While we don’t know how it will relate to the pricing, the base models will surely witness a price jump. Mind it; the AWD demands $1400 for the CX-30 and $1900 for the CX-5 and the CX-9.

The automaker has already updated the 2022 CX-5 with new looks and an updated interior. The 2022 CX-30 and CX-9 will also receive new updates, including the standard all-wheel-drive system.

We are not sure how this move will affect the future Mazda crossovers that will use automakers’ longitudinal platform and new inline-six mills. If AWD comes as standard, it means the RWD model for the speculated CX-50 or a probable bigger three-row SUV to substitute the CX-9 will not be possible. Luxury marquees like BMW offer RWD on some of their crossover models.
