In the world of EVs, the Tesla Model S Long Range sporting 19-inch wheels, offers the longest range of 415 miles. But not anymore! The Environmental Protection Agency has released an official rating for Lucid Motor’s highly anticipated Air Electric sedan and it is 100 miles more than its competitor at 520 miles (837 km).

Importantly, this rating is for the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range featuring 19-inch wheels. Install bigger 21-inch pairs and the range decreases to 481 miles, which is still a lot more than the world’s longest-range vehicle. In other words, the Lucid Air Dream Edition Range surpasses the Model S Long Range by 115 miles using regular wheels and 106 miles with the larger wheels.

Speaking of the Air Dream Edition’s powertrain, it generates 933 hp while its Performance Edition yields a whopping 1,111 hp. Obviously, the more powerful variant will offer a lower range, plunging to 471 miles for the Air running on 19-inch wheels and to 451 miles with 21-inch wheels.

There is another variant of Air, Lucid calls Grand Touring, which markets with 800 hp and 516 miles or 469 miles of range, according to wheel size. Evidently, all Lucid Air models sit atop the EPA’s range list of EVs.

Lucid has made the luxury sedan using a 900V+ electrical architecture, offering 300 miles of range in merely 20 minutes of charging with support for bi-directional charging.

The buyers who want higher performance by sacrificing some of the range must keep in mind that the 1,111-hp Performance Edition can complete a 0-60 mph run in two and a half seconds and hit the quarter-mile in 9.9 seconds.

According to the Lucid Air variant you choose, it will come equipped with a single-motor or dual-motor setup. The huge range it offers is due to the big 113-kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Lucid is developing a production facility in Arizona investing $700-million and hopes to start deliveries before the end of this year. The Air Dream Edition has already been booked for $169,000, which means you can’t have it right now.

However, you can go for a $139,000 Grand Touring, $95,000 620-hp Touring model, or $77,400 base 480-hp Pure. The Touring and Pure offer an estimated 406 miles of range.

Lucid initially wanted to start deliveries in Spring but they got delayed to the end of 2021. With the EPA rating out, we hope customers do not have to bear any more delays.
