Mazda’s first electric EV, the 2022 MX-30 has received its pricing labels starting at $34,645, with sales beginning in October.
Initially, the MX-30 will be available with a 143-hp electric motor, moving the front wheels using a small battery pack offering an insignificant 100 miles of EPA-estimated range. A plug-in hybrid model with a rotary gas engine will be available later.
Comparing the 2022 Mazda MX-30 EV with its rivals, we find it a little puzzling. It has a smaller battery, a shorter range than its competitors that are many thousand dollars cheaper.
For example, the 2022 Chevy Bolt EV is available for $31,995 and offers 259 miles EPA range. The 2022 Nissan Leaf costing less than $30,000 delivers 149 miles of range at least.
The 2022 Mazda MX-30 comes in two grades, with the better-loaded Premium Plus going for $37,655. The extra money adds a 360-degree camera system and a premium audio system.
The order books for the MX-30 are open for US buyers. We do not know yet when it will arrive in the UAE.
