Nissan has finally unveiled the 370Z’s replacement in New York yesterday. Unveiled in concept form as Z Proto about a year ago, the 2023 Nissan Z comes with a new twin-turbocharged V6 engine, an advanced interior, and a design almost similar to the prototype. While the sales’ date and pricing aren’t revealed yet, it will reportedly start around $40,000.
The automaker is offering the 2023 Nissan Z in two grades: Sport and Performance, with exclusive Proto Spec choice on the latter trim.
The design boasts a pointed nose, squared-off grille, old-fashioned LED light fittings and well as rear styling similar to the Z Proto concept. A dark panel stretches the length of the bumper, containing the flat LED taillights under, and a shiny black diffuser gets around the dual exhaust tips. The Performance variant houses a subtle rear spoiler too.
The entry-level Sport comes equipped with 18-inch wheels while the Performance carries the 19-inch rims we have seen in the Z Proto. Nissan is happy to give nine exterior paint choices – six two-tone paints, each with an opposing black roof: Brilliant Silver, Boulder Gray, Seiran Blue, Ikazuchi Yellow, Passion Red, and Everest White. There are three single-tone shade choices as well – Black Diamond, Gun Metallic, and Rosewood Metallic.
Inside, we find the cabin innovative and comfortable using the bucket seats as we see in the GT-R supercar, wrapping regular black cloth or available leather for the Performance model. It has a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen, whereas a bigger 9.0-inch display with navigation and Wi-Fi is accessible on the Performance.
Those who will opt for Proto Spec would find some exclusive parts matching it more to the concept such as yellow-coloured brake callipers and bronze 19-inch RAYS wheels. The Z Proto Spec will be available in limited numbers in America, exclusively for the Performance model.
Talking about the powertrain and performance figures; the 2023 Nissan Z is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 developing an enormous 400 horsepower (298 kilowatts) and 350 pound-feet (475 newton-meters) of torque, moving only the rear wheels. It is 68 hp (51 kW) and 80 lb-ft (108 nm) more than the present 370Z.
Nissan didn’t tell us the 0 to 60 time but did inform us that it will be 15 per cent faster to 60 than the 370Z. The engine mates to a standard six-speed manual, which combines with a high-performance clutch, baked-in rev-matching, as well as a launch control system on the Performance trim. Launch control and rev-matching are also accessible for elective nine-speed automatic transmission, along with the limited-slip differential.
Other changes Nissan made to the new Z include enhanced structural rigidity, modified suspension, a new electronic power steering, and new safety systems such as the automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, a blind-spot warning, a lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic alert.
The 2023 Nissan Z will hit the roads by the start of next year.
