While we were happy and keen to cover the 2021 New York Auto Show, we just heard the sad news. The organizers cancelled the event once again owing to the new Coronavirus variant, Delta. It was supposed to go live from August 20 – 29 for the spectators, with media proceedings starting on August 19. It is cautiously planned to return in April 2022.
“It is with great disappointment that the upcoming 2021 New York International Automobile Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center has been cancelled due to the growing incidences of the COVID-19 Delta variant and the increased measures announced recently by State and local officials to stop its spread,” stated New York Auto Show President Mark Schienberg while talking to media.
The COVID-19 cases have started increasing again in the United States, with more than 105,000 new cases reported on July 30 against 8,069 testified on June 14. Virus infection is also rising quickly in New York City – 1,590 new cases on August 2 against 91 reported in mid-June.
Last month, the Chicago Auto Show witnessed a low vehicle activity, but we knew the 2021 New York Auto Show would return with a host of new debuts and concepts. Sadly, it will not happen now, and we may see debuts from Nissan, Subaru, Hyundai etc., only happening online.
