It is normal for car companies to release new models with a slight price adjustment (mostly coming with a slightly higher price tag). Typically, the price revision is due to the newly added equipment or downgrading the already available features. However, it is very rare to see an automaker dropping a model’s price by several thousand dollars. Well, look at the 2022 Nissan Leaf, which is now a few thousand dollars cheaper than the outgoing model. As per the model selected, it is actually around $4,300 to $6,500 cheaper than the 2021 Leaf.

Talking about the exact price, the base 2022 Leaf S now costs $27,400. Pay this, and the model comes with a 40-kWh battery sending energy to an electric motor yielding 147 horsepower (110 kilowatts) and 236 pound-feet (320 Newton-meters) of torque. With this power, the estimated drive range stands at 149 miles.

Comparing it to the 2021 Leaf selling at $31,670, the new model comes at a $4,270 cut-rate. Add the $7,500 EV federal tax credit in the US (for those who are eligible), and the price reduces to only $19,990. We are sure Nissan knows what’s going to happen with their price cut.

The decreased price is not valid for only the base 2022 Nissan Leaf. In fact, all models now witness a price cut. Below we give you the price difference of 2021 and 2022 models. Bear in mind; these prices do not involve a $975 destination fee.

Model 2022 Leaf Price 2021 Leaf Price Difference
Leaf S $27,400 $31,670 -$4,270
Leaf SV $28,800 $34,960 -$6,160
Leaf S Plus $32,400 $38,270 -$5,870
Leaf SV Plus $35,400 $40,520 -$5,120
Leaf SL Plus $37,400 $43,970 -$6,570

While reducing the prices, you might think that Nissan has dropped the price by withdrawing some important equipment from the electric hatchback. However, the reality is otherwise. Instead of ditching the already installed facilities, the automaker added new ones, such as the CHAdeMO quick-charging port, which now comes standard in addition to a handy 240-volt charging cable.

The upper trim levels, too, get more amenities. The SV Plus gets eight new tech features as standard equipment. Nissan’s ProPilot Assist and 360-degree monitor are among the new facilities.

All the Plus variants still offer the same power as before. It carries a 62-kWh battery and a robust motor creating 214 hp (160 kW) and 250 lb-ft (339 Newton-meters) of torque. Nissan estimates the driving range for the S Plus at 226 miles, while the other Plus models would deliver up to 215 miles.
