Knowing the Hummer brand of old times, the marque was famous for its SUVs. However, GMC has decided to introduce it in the truck model first before launching the SUV and there is a good reason behind this. As we previously revealed that the Hummer EV SUV is less powerful than its pickup sibling and it is the main reason why the Hummer EV truck will launch before its sports utility counterpart.
While talking to Muscle Cars and Trucks, John Mack, GMC Hummer EV’s lead exterior designer stated “trucks are typically the more off-road variant between pickups and SUVs,” so the plan was to introduce the most capable machine first.
In other words, the automaker wants to attract customers with its best creation and the Hummer EV Truck is certainly more capable and practical than the SUV.
If you can recall, the GMC Hummer EV in its flagship model generates up to 1,000 horsepower (746 kilowatts) and 11,500 pound-feet (15,592 Newton-meters) of wheel torque.
On the other hand, the Hummer EV SUV creates 830 hp (619 kW) while retaining the same torque figure. Due to its shorter wheelbase and fewer battery packs, it is less powerful.
