The 10th-generation Civic hatchback was the most pleasing compact car out of the three obtainable body styles. Similarly, the 11th-generation model is more visually gratifying than the recently introduced Civic sedan. Honda has made it specifically for the young, active buyers and we can see the design follows this philosophy through clean lines and sporty elements. Visually, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback sports a different grille with hexagonal openings rather than the horizontal slats found in the sedan. From the back, we find it more compact because of the shorter overhang and length compared to its 5-door sibling.
Powertrain
The automaker offers the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback with two engine choices, similar to the sedan. However, there are more trim levels and the most exciting part is the option of a manual gearbox on different variants.
Another good news is the availability of the 2.0-litre inline-four mill, we find in the Sedan model. Previously, the 2021 Civic hatchback was only available with a turbo 1.5-liter inline-four. Now the entry-level LX and the Sport feature the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre making the same 158 horsepower (118 kilowatts) and 138 pound-feet (187 Newton-meters) as in the sedan. This engine pairs with a standard CVT automatic but you can opt for the six-speed manual as well. On the other hand, the stick-shift is standard on the 2.0L Sport and the turbo 1.5L Sport Touring.
Cargo Space
Comparing the cargo space of the hatchback with the sedan, we find the former a lot roomier for carrying luggage. It comes with 25 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats raised while the sedan only offers 15 cubic feet. You can fold the rear seats in a 60/40 split to get more space in the cargo. The company also says that the rear row has more legroom and headroom for the passengers.
Interior Equipment
Inside, we find the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback gets a standard 7.0-inch touchscreen. A bigger 9.0-inch screen is optional but standard on the Sport Touring trim along with a larger 10.2 inches instrument monitor. The Sport Touring also adds a digital gauge cluster and a Bose audio system. Advanced driver-assistance systems are available across the range. As is the case with other higher trim levels, the EX-L and Sport Touring come equipped with added safety features.
Exterior
Honda has also given customers two new attractive paint choices including Boost Blue and Smokey Mauve Pearl. Furthermore, different trims have different wheels – the LX gets 16-inch wheels, the EX-L features 17-inchers, and the Sport and Sport Touring both wear 18-inch wheels with wider 235-series tires.
Price
The automaker did not reveal the pricing details of the new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback yet. However, we believe it will begin in the low-$20,000 range for the base model and max out at about $30,000 for the range-topper Sport Touring.
Honda will not produce the Civic in the UK instead both the sedan and hatchback models will be developed in Indiana, USA. Expect the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback at the dealership in the coming months.
