Toyota plans to introduce the new 2022 Tundra in the fall this year. The automaker already teased us with its front end and now they released an image of its powertrain, mentioning iForce MAX, which possibly tells about its hybrid nature.
The ongoing Tundra boasts the 5.7-litre iForce V-8 churning out 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque, channelled to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The new iForce MAX is potentially a hybrid featuring a twin-turbocharged or naturally aspirated 3.5-litre V-6 engine. We get it from the three intake runners on every side and blue “MAX” writing. The non-hybrid iForce MAX V6 creates 409 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque for the new Land Cruiser.
Toyota also plans to bring an electric pickup truck soon, but we are not sure if it will be Tundra. The recent spy shots come with covered rear suspension, proposing the pickup may abandon the leaf-spring setup for the coil springs, air springs or maybe for the independent rear suspension.
Considering other big automakers are bringing hybrid and electric pickup trucks, the hybrid Tundra would widen its appeal. For more information about the 2022 Tundra, stay tuned.
