While Fiat was readying a new compact crossover for Latin America, they wanted the public to name the subcompact model. They gave fans three names – Pulse, Tuo, and Domo – and asked them to vote for their favourite moniker. The online poll was won by the “Pulse” by getting 65% votes followed by “Domo” with 25%, and “Tuo” with 10%.
To announce this news, Fiat showed us two images and a video featuring the small crossover with the “Pulse” badge on the tailgate.
What Fiat told us so far, we understand that the vehicle stands at a wheelbase of 2,532 millimetres (99.7 inches). It is 11 mm (0.4 in) longer than the mechanically linked Argo small hatchback. Reportedly, Pulse’s wheelbase is shorter than its two main competitors – Volkswagen Nivus and Honda WR-V.
For Brazil, the automaker plans to introduce the Pulse with a three-cylinder 1.0-litre unit generating around 120 horsepower and 196 Newton-meters (145 pound-feet) of torque sent to wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The entry-level mill might be a naturally aspirated 1.3-litre good for 109 hp and 139 Nm (103 lb-ft) paired with a five-speed manual or a CVT, same as we get in the Argo.
The Fiat Pulse will make its official debut soon with sales starting this fall in Brazil.
