The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has canceled the 2021 Tokyo Auto Show due to safety concerns created due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. The organizers want to rebrand the show as the Tokyo Mobility Show.
“The Tokyo auto show showcases motorbikes, minicars, large vehicles, passenger cars, as well as mobility vehicles of other industries,” JAMA Chairman Akio Toyoda stated, as per Automotive News. “As such, we would like to prioritize having visitors experience these vehicles in the real world, and we would rather hold the event in the real world, not virtually. So, we have decided to cancel the event.”
It is the first time the organizers has canceled the Tokyo Auto Show, which is a biennial motoring event. It was due to run this year from October 20 to October 21. JAMA didn’t reveal when they plan to organize the Tokyo Mobility Show. However, rumors say it might happen in 2022 or 2023.
It is not the first show that has canceled this year. The 2021 North American International Auto Show was abandoned and replaced by an affair known Motor Bella at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, from September 21-26.
The 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show has also been rescheduled to November 17 and 18.
The only show we have recently witnessed is the 2021 Auto Shanghai that brought us many new cars and concepts.
